About the Dream Project 

Founded in 2010, the Dream Project’s mission is to empower Virginia high school graduates whose immigration status creates barriers to post-secondary education. The Dream Project works with them to access and succeed in college through scholarships, mentoring, and scholar and alumni support. This position requires your presence in the Northern Virginia/D.C. metropolitan region.

 

About the Position

We are looking for a part-time (up to 20 hours a week) skilled bookkeeper to maintain and manage the financial transactions, records, and reporting. The position is hybrid and you will be expected to work from the Arlington office multiple days a week.

Responsibilities:

     

      • Record Cash Receipts/Income:

           

            • Record cash receipts and income from daily cash reports or bank deposits accurately and timely.

        • Record Cash Disbursements/Expenses:

             

              • Record cash disbursements and expenses efficiently, ensuring all transactions are properly documented.

              • Make any necessary adjusting entries in records initially compiled and maintained to ensure accuracy.

          • Reconcile Bank Statements:

               

                • Reconcile bank statements to ensure all transactions are accounted for and discrepancies are resolved promptly.

            • Maintain General Ledger:

                 

                  • Maintain the general ledger with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring all entries are recorded correctly.

              • Prepare 1099s:

                   

                    • Prepare 1099 forms for vendors and contractors at year-end and send them out before January 31st in compliance with regulations.

                • Organize Financial Information:

                     

                      • Organize and maintain financial information in both electronic and paper form, including checks, and other relevant documents.

                  • Compliance and Fraud Prevention and Detection:

                       

                        • Identify and ensure the organization’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to financial transactions and reporting.

                  Database and donation processing: 

                     

                      • Process one-off and regular donations from both online and offline sources

                      • Ensure the database is kept accurate and up-to-date by recording changes including mailing preferences, address details and financial information 

                       

                        • Under direction of Operations Director, transfers scholarship funds to colleges/universities that the scholars will attend 1st half scholarship  in June and 2nd half scholarship in December.

                        • Under direction of Operations Director, maintains record of loans loans and repayments in a format that is accessible to the Loan/ERF Committee

                        • Under supervision of Operations Manager, control income and expenses for parents activities.

                        • collect required forms and documents for new hires

                        • Annually manages health insurance enrollments for staff

                        • Manage payroll system and account information for all subscriptions 

                        • Manage the petty cash fund and maintains integrity of accounting system data

                        • Processes invoices and prepares checks for signature and mail vendor checks.

                        • Work with Operations Manager to prepare financial reports and budget for grants.

                      Qualifications:

                         

                          • Proactive problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to maintain accuracy and integrity of information and programs

                          • Proven experience as a bookkeeper with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.

                          • Proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks 

                          • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.

                          • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

                          • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing financial transactions
