Vice-Chair Earns Joan White Grassroots Award

\”Volunteers make dreams come true…\”
-Jane Powell, Dream Project Vice Chair

On October 10, 2018, Volunteer Alexandria awarded Dream Project\’s Vice-Chair, Jane Powell, the Joan White Grassroots Service Award. The Joan White Grassroots Service Award is given to a volunteer who has selflessly committed time, energy and skills to help an organization to further its mission.

\”Life can be beautiful and brutally difficult,\” Jane stated as part of her remarks. Dreamers know this all too well as they discover that their road to higher education is riddled with obstacles. Here at the Dream Project, our volunteers and staff work to give them a fighting chance to succeed in college. Jane is one of 130 volunteers last year that made it possible for the Dream Project to mentor 40 high school seniors and fund 95 renewable college scholarships. Indeed, volunteers are at the heart of the Dream Project.

Volunteering isn\’t easy, and it takes time and courage, but as Jane explained, volunteers are inspired by \”…the grace, courage and tenacity…\” of those served. \”Volunteers make dreams come true,\” Jane said, and here at the Dream Project we know we are incredibly lucky to have her fighting for our Dreamers.

Thank you and congratulations to Jane for this accomplishment, and thanks to all tireless volunteers and champions, for everything you do for our Dreamers.
